Shooting at Howe Park Leaves Four Victims Wounded in Arden-Arcade Sacramento

Law enforcement in Sacramento are probing a gun violence incident that unfolded Saturday evening at Howe Park in Sacramento just as deputies were breaking up a large unauthorized gathering of several hundred people.

What Led to the Shooting

Sacramento County law enforcement were first dispatched to the park at approximately 6:30 Saturday evening after obtaining information of persons possibly in possession of concealed weapons. Not long after, a second call came in about a reported physical confrontation breaking out at Howe Park.

Air support conducted an aerial sweep but came back with no confirmation of a fight. However, it became clear that an enormous crowd had packed into the park without authorization.

The Shooting Itself

Law enforcement personnel set about removing people from the park by surrounding the park and making announcements directing the assembled crowd to disperse at once. Nearly 15 minutes were provided for attendees to disperse.

At the height Howe Community Park shooting 2026 of the dispersal effort that between 20 and 25 rounds were fired. The rapid succession of shots caused mass panic. Officers at once began looking for those injured.

Those Who Were Hit

Ultimately, four individuals were found to have been shot. The four individuals — made up of one woman and three men ranging in age through their in their mid to late twenties — were brought to nearby hospitals. Medical personnel reported that two victims sustained immediate injuries, one of the four had moderate gunshot wounds, and one sustained minor gunshot wounds. Thankfully, each of the four victims was stable.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department were called to the scene and assisted with medical triage shooting victims prior to hospital transport.

Crime Scene Evidence

The primary shooting scene was determined to have unfolded along Cottage Way next to the local Home Depot located at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Detectives found extra shell casings scattered along Cottage Way. Bullet holes were observed in the metal fencing alongside the Home Depot. The physical evidence suggested that a second shooter had been discharging rounds toward the south from Cottage Way aimed at the Home Depot store. That Home Depot location was temporarily locked down during the incident. CSI units alongside detectives remained on scene through the early morning hours.

Suspects Detained

Reports confirmed through scanner monitoring revealed that a vehicle identified as a Kia was pulled over in nearby Solano County. Four suspects were stopped and detained. Deputies were en route to collect those detained to bring the suspects back for processing in Sacramento County. Surveillance footage confirmed that two separate shooters participated in the incident.
